Fermentation Basket
While this gift isn’t entirely consumable, it will give your loved one a starting point to create delicious fermented foods for years to come!
Last year, I gifted my aunt and uncle a basket that had some home-canned goods, a fermentation kit, and a fermentation recipe book.

Homemade Jam
If you like canning, homemade jam is sure to be a favorite! Last year, I gifted jalapeno jelly and peach butter. I was going to gift strawberry jam, but my family ate it all!
If you are new to canning, read this post about the basics of water bath canning. I use this book for almost all of my canning recipes–including delicious jams and jellies!

Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix
This gift is affordable and delicious! Use this recipe to make homemade hot cocoa mix in a mason jar! I recommend sealing it with this automatic vacuum sealer for extra freshness!
If you have children, they can even help with this delicious consumable gift idea!

Homemade Bread Basket
There’s nothing quite like homemade bread! You could make your loved ones some homemade sourdough bread, gift a sourdough starter, or make a homemade yeast bread.

Homemade Cranberry Juice for Wassail
Last year, I gifted multiple family members homemade cranberry juice and a recipe card to make homemade wassail using a recipe from Prairie Creek Homestead! They loved it, and it makes a beautiful gift!

Candles
Who doesn’t love candles!? I opt for unscented beeswax candles because they add a beautiful ambiance without harmful toxins. You could make your own or order some pre-made ones like these! You could also gift some vintage candlestick holders and tie the candles with a beautiful ribbon!

Garden Center Gift Cards
Last year, I asked for garden center gift cards whenever people asked what I wanted. I used that money to purchase berry plants for my food forest. Fruit trees and berry plants are expensive and can take a few years to get established, and this was a way for me to purchase a lot at once! I recommend Stark’s Bros for fruit trees and berry plants. For organic and non-gmo seeds, I recommend True Leaf Market or Botanical Interests.

Homemade Tallow
Tallow is rendered beef fat that can be used in cooking, candle making, and skincare. This year, I learned how to render tallow and make homemade whipped tallow balm for skincare. I gifted some to family members, and they love it!

Homemade Vanilla Extract
One year, my mom made all of us homemade vanilla extract. It was delicious, healthier than store bought, and much cheaper to make in bulk. Read this post to learn how to make your own!

Salt Dough Ornaments
Each year, my kids and I make homemade salt dough ornaments. They make great gifts for grandparents and can easily be personalized. We even use them as decorations on gifts! Read this post to learn how to make your own salt dough ornaments.

The best gifts come from the heart. If you are trying to reduce waste but still give meaningful gifts this year, I hope that these consumable gift ideas give you a place to start!
