Shortly after Lincoln was born, I taught myself how to sew because my love for organic baby clothes and bonnets didn’t quite align with our budget. My shop, Elsie James, is named after my great-grandmother Elsie who loved to sew and my son, Lincoln James who inspired it all! Because I am a former teacher and am passionate about literacy, I donate 10% of my earnings to purchase books for children and teachers across the U.S.
My organic fabric is sourced from a small, family-run mill right here in the U.S. I primarily sew cozy knit pieces for both children and adults, but I am hoping to incorporate other natural fibers, such as linen, into my shop.
My shop provides supplemental income for our family and has allowed me to connect with so many people across the globe. I also sew the majority of Lincoln’s wardrobe, and am slowly working on building capsule wardrobe staple pieces for Carson and myself. Our family is looking for ways to live more sustainably and Elsie James is one of these sources in addition to building our little homestead.
