And this is why we are only spending an average of $50 on groceries each week 👇🏼✅ Buying bulk food is an initial investment, but it has made meal planning, meal prep, and cooking from scratch so much easier.This year, we started buying organic bulk food from @azurestandard and meat from a local farmer.🙌🏻 Now instead of having nothing to build meals off of, we have our own mini grocery store in our cellar! 🌾We used to spend $150-$200 a week on groceries plus quite a bit extra for takeout. But the last few weeks we have only had to buy ingredients to supplement our bulk food and what we grew in our garden. Have you been dreaming of the day when you can finally start homesteading? Perhaps when you have more money, more time, more land?❌I used to think that self-sufficiency was too hard. Too overwhelming. I didn’t have enough time to learn the skills required. It was too much while raising young kids.🥦But then, I overheard an experienced homesteader say to try to preserve just one thing everyday. That comment from @threerivershomestead stuck with me. 🥕So, I started making small changes each day. Slowly practicing and acquiring the skills needed.⏰ As a mama with young children, my time is precious. So this learning often happened during nap time, after dinner, or once the kids were in bed.🌾But I found that learning generational skills was more than worth the time and effort. It gave me confidence as a homemaker… in my ability to nourish my family with food that I grew and preserved myself.🌱Over the last year, I have learned how to raise chickens, grow a garden, can and preserve, bake sourdough, and cook from scratch with bulk food. That’s why I prioritized learning to homestead in the little pockets of time that I had. How to Choose the Best Sustainable Boots for Fall

There’s nothing that says 🍂FALL🍂 quite like a fresh batch of homemade pumpkin chocolate chip cookies! Even if it’s still 90 degrees outside 😅Here’s how to make them, but first… SAVE this recipe to try this week!Ingredients:▢ ½ c butter▢ ½ tsp cinnamon▢ ⅛ tsp nutmeg▢ ⅛ tsp ground cloves▢ ⅛ tsp ground allspice▢ ¼ c sugar▢ ½ c brown sugar▢ ⅓ c canned pumpkin puree▢ ¼ c sourdough discard▢ 1 ⅓ c AP flour OR 2 c fresh-milled flour▢ ¼ tsp baking powder▢ ¼ tsp baking soda▢ ½ tsp salt▢ 1 c mini chocolate chipsInstructions:1. Brown the butter on the stove until melted and bubbly. Mix in the spices and let it cool.2. Mix the sugars, pumpkin, and discard together. Add into butter mixture.3. Fold in the rest of the ingredients! 4. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 375 F!Note: I made these with fresh milled flour from my @nutrimill and used about 2 c. In less than one year, I have learned how to:🌱 Grow most of our produce🫙 Can and preserve the harvest🐓Raise backyard chickens🥕 Make homemade compost🐄 Buy meat in bulk from local farmers🥄 Cook from scratch using basic ingredients🌾 Mill my own flour🍞 Create a sourdough starter and bake breadAND YOU CAN TOO.I had no prior experience. I didn’t grow up homesteading. We did all of these things on a tight budget on just a few acres. But honestly… we could have done every single one of these things in our small backyard at our last home.You don’t need a lot of land or a lot of money to homestead. And you certainly don’t have to do it all.You just need to move past the fear and be okay with failure. Because let me tell you—I’ve had a long list of failures over the last year, but that is how we learn. Get better.
