When we renovated our home, we never really got around to decorating the bedrooms because we spent so much time, energy, and our budget on other major projects in the home. This winter, I wanted to focus on making our bedroom a cozy, restful retreat, and I can’t wait to reveal the result. Here is our cozy cottage bedroom renovation!
Mixing Old and New for a Cozy Cottage Bedroom Style
We painted our dark blue bedroom a light green called Mizzle from Farrow and Ball. We color patched a sample of the color to save money on paint.
The trim is the color White Dove by Benjamin Moore, and the floors are a solid white deck paint from Behr.
Our furniture was all from our last home–a secondhand nightstand and dressers and a black metal bed frame (similar).
I wanted to make this room feel peaceful and cozy with lots of layers and muted colors mixed with soft neutrals.
Bedding in our Cozy Cottage Bedroom
We decided to move our old duvet to our guest room because we didn’t have the correct size in there. Our new duvet is the Organic Airy Gauze Duvet Cover in the color Dune from Quince. It is incredibly soft and so warm! We are planning on getting a new insert that will make it even more fluffy and full.
We layered it with the European Linen Cotton Stitch Quilt in Natural from Quince. This quilt is soft, high quality, and has a beautiful texture and depth. It is a beautiful layered piece in the colder months, and it will be perfect on its own in the summer due to how breathable linen fabric is.
I love the beautiful shams that came with both of these bedding sets! The gray throw is the Chunky Hand Knit Wool Throw from Quince. We usually use this throw in our living room, but I wanted to try it up here for now! My mom is going to crochet us a blanket for our room, but for now I love the look of this cozy throw!
The pillows are ones that I have had for years, and I think some of the covers are from Ikea. Here is a link to some similar pillow covers.
Rug
Rugs are extremely expensive, so I decided to check Facebook Marketplace. When buying rugs on Marketplace, I try to purchase them new or from pet-free homes.
This one was brand new, it was only being sold due to a few small imperfections from a shipping error. It is available online here.
It was the perfect size, perfect colors, and it looks like it was made for our room!
Something I love about Loloi rugs is that they look vintage but are a lot more affordable and easier to clean due to their low-pile design. I love how this rug ties everything together!
Light Fixture
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my chandelier fiasco! I wanted to create a romantic atmosphere in the room with a vintage chandelier, and I found the perfect one secondhand.
Well, I just eye-balled it for measurements, and then my husband decided to double check before we picked it up. Turns out it was way too long for our ceilings. So, we kept looking and found this beauty for only $20 on Facebook Marketplace! It’s smaller and fits the space much better!

Our curtains and rods are from Ikea. Eventually, we’d like to add some new blinds as well. The french doors came out of an old farmhouse about an hour from us. The room didn’t have doors when we first moved in!
The frames are from Walmart, and our photographer, Glynne Ashley Photography, did a phenomenal job on our family photos! The lamp is originally from Ikea, but here is a similar one.
Future Plans
Eventually, I’d love to add a gold oval mirror somewhere in the room. I also love frame TVs, but they are a luxury item that is not really in our budget at the moment!
Renovations often don’t happen all at once. You can make small changes over time. There is beauty in saving up and slowly curating a home you love!
