How to Make Whipped Tallow Balm

Another way to use tallow is to whip it up into a whipped tallow balm. This form of tallow will not last as long, but it is fluffier and spreads easier. It’s perfect if you want to use your tallow for skincare!

Here’s how to turn solid tallow into whipped tallow balm.

whipped tallow balm recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup tallow
  • 1/4 cup organic olive oil or avocado oil
  • 50 drops of pure essential oil (lavender, tea tree, or frankincense are great options for skincare)

Directions:

  1. Melt the tallow on low in a saucepan until it liquifies.

  1. Remove from heat and stir in ¼ cup of the organic oil of your choice.
  2. Then, gradually add and stir in the essential oils. You can do 50 drops of the same oil or make a blend using different oils.

  1. Allow the mixture to solidify at room temperature. Next, put it in a stand mixer or use a hand mixer until it turns into a fluffy texture. It should be the consistency of buttercream frosting.

  1. Scoop it into glass jars and label if desired!

You can store your skincare in simple mason jars or amber glass jars specifically made for skincare products. If you want to give your homemade tallow balm as a gift, you could even print off a cute sticker label or tie on a tag with a ribbon.

Make the Most of What You Have

One thing that homesteading has taught me is to make the most of what I have. Making homemade tallow balm is a great way to reduce waste, save money, and use parts of the animal that would have otherwise gone to waste.
