Our Small Farmhouse Kitchen
Our home was built in 1926 and our kitchen is roughly the size of a walk-in closet. We had to search for weeks to find a refrigerator that would fit the space because it is so small.
Even though I think a kitchen is more about the heart of the cook than about the size of the room, having a small space can be a bit of a challenge!
Homestead Kitchen Essentials
If you homestead, you know that a lot of it revolves around the kitchen. Growing food leads to lots of cooking and preservation. These skills require quite a few extra tools which are not always conducive to a tiny space!
We are fortunate to have an unfinished laundry room and root cellar adjacent to our tiny kitchen. We use these areas for storing our canning and preservation equipment, but a garage or closet would work if you don’t have this extra space! I like to store my canning equipment on a large wire shelf.

10 Small Kitchen Storage Hacks
Here are 10 small kitchen storage solutions to try if you are struggling to make the most of your tiny space!
Lazy Susans
We have limited cabinet space and no pantry, so these Lazy Susan’s from Target are perfect for maximizing space! You can fit quite a few jars on these and stack them depending on the height of your cabinets.

Azure Standard Glass Jars
I store my bulk food in these gallon-sized glass jars with these lids. They also come in shorter, half-gallon sizes. We keep the rest of our bulk food in our root cellar.
Read this post to learn how to store bulk food properly.

Bulk Food
This may seem counterintuitive, but buying in bulk actually does help make space in our kitchen. By keeping several items on hand that we can use to cook from scratch, we have less of a need for pre-packed goods that take up lots of space.
I like to buy my bulk food from Azure Standard because they offer organic options at an affordable price. Azure Standard is a bulk-food coop where you pick up the food at a drop location.

Baskets
Although we buy less pre-packed goods than we used to, we do still keep some on hand for easy breakfasts and on-the-go snacks! I use these baskets to hold these items to keep my cabinets looking clean and organized as opposed to a jumbled mess.

Mason Jars
I keep a lot of our dried goods and baking supplies in mason jars. I love the simple look, and it takes up less space and makes for easy re-fills. You could also use a label maker like this to label the jars.

SpaceAid Lid Organizer
The biggest pain point in my kitchen is keeping storage-container lids organized. I’ve tried many methods but usually end up with a mess a few weeks later.
This SpaceAid organizer is perfect for storing lids and making them easy to find.

SpaceAid Wrap Organizer
I also love this wrap organizer from SpaceAid! It is where I keep my foil, Saran Wrap, and parchment paper. It is easy to use and refill, and I love how it simplifies my drawers!
We have small drawers but these organizers still fit well! I just recommend measuring before ordering to make sure!

One Set of Dishes
Another way we have made the most of our small kitchen is by having only one set of dishes. I chose a simple, classic white set from Bed, Bath, & Beyond from when we got married, and I still love it years later!

Cabinet for Dishes
To free up space for food in our cabinets, we use a freestanding cabinet to store some of of dishes. It makes it easy for the kids to access the dishes to help set the table or get a plate for a snack!
I bought my cabinet at a local garage sale, but here is one you could purchase that has a similar look!

Storage Elsewhere
As I mentioned above, we store our larger kitchen items like our air fryer, crockpot, and canning supplies on a wire rack in our laundry room. We also store our bulk food in 5-gallon buckets in our cellar.
This frees up so much space in our kitchen, and I only have to get those appliances and items out when I really need them!

Organization Hacks on a Budget
It is possible to maximize space in a tiny kitchen when you use a little creativity and make the most of the items you have! The items mentioned above can really help with making the most of a little space, but in my opinion–it’s always best to start with what you already have on hand!
