Lowland Kids is a woman-owned, mother-owned sewing pattern shop that sells beginner-friendly patterns specifically for knit fabric. (If you aren’t sure what knit fabric is, read this post). Although the company primarily focuses on children’s clothing patterns, they also offer several adult options. Lowland sells children’s sewing patterns in sizes preemie – 9/10 and adult patterns in sizes xxs-5x. Their patterns are classic basics that can be easily customized and go with everything! I primarily use Lowland patterns when planning capsule wardrobes for my kids because of their versatility.
Here’s a roundup of my favorite sewing patterns from this incredible knit-fabric focused pattern company! I use many of these patterns in my small shop Elsie James Clothing, when sewing for my own family, and when making gifts for loved ones!
This pattern looks complicated, but comes together so quick and easy! It’s such a cute but unique basic for babies and toddlers alike! I love making it out of french terry and having my daughter wear it with tights and a handmade bow in the winter! You will need a snap press, and I recommend this handheld snap press for personal sewing or this table snap press if sewing bulk orders for a small business.
This is a year-round staple! It can be worn on its own or layered with a cardigan in the winter. It can be customized as a tank, long-sleeved shirt, or with ruffle sleeves!
This is seriously one of the best patterns out there! It looks complicated, but it’s actually a pretty easy and quick sew if you have the right tools! You will also need a snap press, and I recommend this handheld snap press for personal sewing or this table snap press if sewing bulk orders for a small business. This pattern is perfect for both babies and toddlers. It’s super versatile and can be worn as jammies at night or a romper for during the day! This is also a great scrap-buster pattern. Use small fabric scraps to finish the cuffs, sleeves, or neckband for a unique look. It runs a little big in my opinion, but I always make my kids’ clothes big so they can wear them longer!
This simple dress has such a classic look! This pattern has three options and can be made as a tee, a short-sleeved dress, or a long-sleeved dress. I love the scooped back and option for pockets! This dress is such a fun sew and is one of my all-time favorite dress patterns out of the many I have tried! (Photos taken by Sarah Adams for my small shop Elsie James Clothing).
The women’s dolman is probably my most-made and most-worn pattern. It was a bestseller in my shop, I wear mine multiple times a week, and I love giving it as a gift to my loved ones! This pattern is beginner friendly and can be customized with different sleeves and different lengths. It comes in sizes XXS-5X and can be dressed up or down easily!
I think I made three pairs in a week when this pattern was first released! They are so comfortable and can be worn as loungewear, pjs, or dressed up with a sweater for a cozy look! I love making them in rib knit or a thin french terry. The best thing about this pattern is that it can be used for both knit and woven fabric–wouldn’t these be beautiful in a mid-weight linen fabric!?
This pattern takes less than 20 minutes to make from the time you cut it out to the time you sew it! It was also a best seller in my shop and makes a perfect, handmade gift for loved ones at Christmas! (Photos taken by me of the Gutierrez family for my small shop, Elsie James Clothing).
My favorite patterns are the most versatile patterns, and the Sunshine Dress is just that! It can be worn on its own in the summer or layered with a basic tee in the fall for a pinafore-style look! I love making it out of ribbed fabric, but it would also be beautiful in a jersey knit! (Photos taken by me of the Gutierrez family for my small shop, Elsie James Clothing).
This is the kids version of the dolman mentioned above. It comes in sizes NB-9/10 and is a perfect layering piece. I love to make mine a size too big for my son so that he can wear them for a few years in a row. (Photos taken by O’Malley Marshall for my shop, Elsie James Clothing).
This pattern is FREE and makes the cutest leggings to layer under sweaters, dresses, or tees. If your kid is in between sizes, I recommend sizing up or you can grade the pattern to fit the individual inseam of your little one!
(Discount applied automatically at checkout. This sale is valid until 11/28/22 and cannot be combined with other discounts).
