About Quince

Quince is an online store that offers luxury clothing, shoes, and home goods at an affordable price. Quince’s products are sustainably and ethically made, high quality, and more affordable than their competitors.

According to their website, Quince states:

“Our mission was simple—create products of equal or greater quality than the leading luxury brands at a much lower price. Because we believe quality should never be a luxury. We never cut corners when it comes to quality, sustainability or fair manufacturing practices. Our prices stay low because we avoid the expenses of the traditional supply chain, including sourcing agents, warehousing, wholesaling, distribution and storefront retail.”

My Search for an Active Winter Coat

I needed a new winter coat this year because the only one that I owned was stained, had holes, and honestly didn’t even fit right. I will repair and save this coat for messy outdoor chores on our urban homestead, but I wanted to find a nicer coat to wear for outings.

My mom generously surprised me with a beautiful back coat that is perfect for church, dates, and nicer events. But, I also wanted to find a coat that could be worn on errands with my kids, nature walks, and for day-to-day use. Something durable and warm, but that still looked nice.

I had a credit to Quince and decided to use it to purchase their beautiful Responsible Down Hooded Long Parka coat. I have worn this coat almost daily since purchasing it and know that it will be one that I will cherish for years to come!

Quince Coat Facts

This down-filled, long parka is as functional as it is beautiful. Here are a few facts about the make of this coat, according to Quince’s website.

  • Responsible Down Standard certified
  • Waterproof
  • Fully seam-sealed
  • Stormflap and snap button closure on the front
  • Adjustable hood
  • Faux fur ruff (removeable)
  • Storm cuffs with thumbholes
  • Pockets with zippers
  • Inner and outer pockets (6 in all)
  • Inner straps that function like backpack straps to carry the coat when not in use
  • OEKO-TEX® certified

At the time of publishing, this Quince coat is currently listed for $189.90. While this is an investment, it is much less than similar coats from Mackage, Canada Goose, and Moncler which range in price from about $1,500 to $3,100. Patagonia offers a similar-style coat; however, theirs are about $500-$700.

The coat is currently available in three beautiful neturals: black, faded cargo, and carbon grey. I have the carbon grey color, but I think it looks more like a muted blue color.

Quince Coat Pros

  • Very warm
  • Waterproof and windproof
  • Beautiful neutrals
  • Responsibly sourced down
  • Lots of pockets
  • Faux furr (removeable)
  • Cuffs with thumbholes
  • Backpack straps
  • Long
  • Well-made
  • Durable

In my opinion, this coat has so many positives! It is very warm, waterproof, and windproof. I live in Kansas which is known for windy days, and when I wear this coat, I stay both warm and dry!

It is also available in three beautiful neturals. I am a soft summer on the color analysis, so I love the carbon grey which has a blue tone to it.

Quince says that this coat is sustainably made and that they use responsibly-sourced down. It also contains recycled materials in addition to natural fibers.

I personally hate carrying extra bags when out with my kids, and this coat has lots of deep pockets perfect for holding a phone, wallet, keys, snacks, etc. Some of the pockets zip and snap closed to keep items from getting lost.

I also love the extra touches like the adjustable, faux-fur hood and the cuffs with thumbholes. The cuffs give the coat a sporty look and it helps keep your hands warmer.

The coat also has backpack-like straps on the inside. I don’t use these often, but if you are out hiking and get too hot, you can just wear the coat like a backpack so that you can keep your hands free. This is a great addition for moms who have their hands full or outdoorsy-people who live in a place with big temperature fluctuations.

Overall, this Quince coat is beautiful, durable, and well-made. I sew some of my own clothes and pay attention to the stitching, fabric quality, and detailing. This coat has excellent craftsmanship, and I believe it will last for years to come with minimal need for repairs.

Quince Coat Cons

  • Heavy
  • Fitted
  • Limited Colors

Although I love this Quine coat, there are a few cons that I’ll mention. It is really heavy, which is great if you live in a cold place! However, in the midwest, we can have pretty major weather fluctuation over the course of a day. I find that wearing this coat in anything above 50 degrees F is too warm. However, it does have the backpack straps so that you can wear it on your back if you are out hiking and it gets too warm.

As I mentioned above, the jacket is pretty fitted and a bit rigid. I’m in-between sizes and find that the top is a little loose and the bottom is a little tight. To counteract this, I’d recommend ordering the shorter parka version if you are concerned about the waist or hips being too tight in comparison to the top.

In addition, the jacket is currently only available in three colors, but if you don’t see one you like, I recommend the Quince Puffer which comes in a wide range of colors!

Sizing Tips for this Quince Coat

I am a few months postpartum at the time I am writing this post. My measurements are currently within the XS range for the bust and Medium for the waist and hips.

I purchased a medium and thought about returning the coat for a small, but I decided I’d rather have a bigger size so I can wear sweaters underneath.

It is pretty fitted through the hips for me right now, but there are magnetic snaps on the backside that can be opened up to allow for a little more room.

The jacket is a little wide for me in the shoulders, but I don’t think it is too noticeable! I would rather have a jacket that is slightly loose compared to too tight.

How to Style this Quince Coat

I personally think this coat has a sporty look and looks great with leggings and tennis shoes. I also think it would look nice with jeans! I like to wear it with my Nisolo All-Weather Amalia boots, especially on snowy days. Read this post for details on these versatile boots!

You could dress the coat up, but the storm cuffs with thumb holes really make this coat lean more athletic than dressy.

Slippers

I have these house shoes from Quince and I wore them almost daily last winter! They run a little small, and my feet grew during pregnancy so I haven’t worn them as much; however, I do recommend them… just consider sizing up!

Cardigan

I also have a Cropped Cashmere Cardigan from Quince that I wear weekly. It’s honestly my current favorite piece I own! Read my full review of Quince cashmere in this post. I’d love to add more to my wardrobe over time.
