Basic Gardening Supplies Under $10

Trowel

A hand trowel is like a small shovel that is helpful for planting smaller plants or digging up weeds in your garden. It is one of my most-used garden tools! Get a hand trowel here.

Garden Ties

Garden ties are useful for trellising plants and for training them to grow around their trellis. I used mine for training my tomatoes and cucumbers to go up my cattle panel trellises. These are the garden ties I prefer because they don’t damage the plants.

Gloves

Some plants have spiky stems and leaves (ex: cucumbers and zucchini) and gloves are extremely helpful when working with these plants! Here is a pair of gardening gloves great reviews for under $10!

Field knife

I actually do not have a field knife yet, but I need one! I struggled to cut down my okra plants this year, and a field knife would have been very helpful when harvesting! This field knife has great reviews.

Pruner

A pruner like this is useful for cutting back plants with larger stems or tree branches. We have a few pairs and use them often. Here is a pair of pruners perfect for cutting back trees and shrubs.

Kneeler

If you have a large, in-ground garden, you might spend a lot of time on your knees. A kneeler is a padded rectangle that is helpful for providing a comfortable surface to work on. Here is a durable kneeling pad for gardening.

Hand Pruning Shears

Pruning shears are helpful for harvesting vegetables, cutting off small limbs and pranches, and pruning early in the season. Here is an affordable pair with great reviews!

Rake

I use my rake all of the time! It’s perfect for moving mulch, compost, or leaves around the garden. I prefer metal gardening rakes like this one.

Trellises or Cages

I used cages for my tomatoes and peppers and we built cattle-panel trellises for our zucchini, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Here is how we built our cattle panel trellises.

Hoe

A hoe is useful for making indents to plant seeds or for getting rid of pesky weeds. Get one here.

Garden Fork

A garden fork like this is useful for moving mulch or turning compost. It’s not a cheap tool, but a high-quality one is more than worth the investment. Here is a great multi-purpose garden fork.

Broad Fork

I don’t have a broad fork yet, but I’ve heard that they are extremely useful for no-till gardens. It’s a way to break up and loosen the soil without disturbing all of it. They are also great for harvesting underground crops like potatoes. Here is what a broad fork looks like.

Hose or Drip Line System

You will need to have a reliable watering system in your garden. A long hose or a drip line system are both great options! Here is the drip line system by husband designed and installed. Plus, this post has step-by-step tips for how to make your own!
